If one finds this sort of show interesting, I'd also recommend the Korean drama "Different Dreams". It deals with the Korean struggle under Japanese occupation. There is a line where at one point one of the characters laments that he worries that upon independence Korea will be crushed between the capitalist west and communist east. Very prophetic. Some of the show is also based on actual events and peoples.
